About us

Queer Christian Network (SKN, Skeivt kristent nettverk) – is a network of lesbians, gays, bisexuals, transgenders and allies, established in Norway in 2019. Most of us who have been part of this network from the very beginning have a background from Pentecostal and charismatic churches, but other denominations are represented as well.

«I just wanted to say that I'm so happy that you started SKN. I wouldn't be where I am now without you. My self-confidence and faith in life is growing.»

Why does SKN exist?

A lot of people struggle to accept their sexual identity or gender identity, and it is particularly difficult when you are/have been part of a conservative Christian church. You most likely deal with a tremendous inner conflict because you've been exposed to so much harsh and hateful preaching condemning homosexuality and people with gender issues – and everthing outside a heterosexual marriage is considered a sin.
For many people the threat and fear of hell is also very real, and it can take a long time to process and heal from such traumas.

Sadly a lot of people who experience a mismatch between their sexual identity, gender identity and their Christian faith have been subject to so much shame and condemnation through Christian preaching that they just give up on faith completely. They are no longer welcome in their congregations, and due to spiritual abuse and wrongdoing in the «name of Jesus» they see no other option than to throw away the whole ide of a loving God.

In this space we want you who identify as a believer and LGBT+, or who are struggling with your sexual identity and/or gender identity (whether you are still in the closet, out of it, or somewhere in the middle) to be able to read and find that you are good enough just the way you are. That you will find the information on faith, sexual identity and gender identity that you will most likely not find in your church or in conversation with a Pentecostal pastor.

In SKN, we believe it is possible to be a person of the Christian faith and also be in a same sex relationship or transgender. We would very much like for you to feel safe in this as well!

We want to convey that although it can be difficult to relate to an established and organized church as LGBT+, you do not need to scrap your faith to live as a whole human being. It is totally possible to have a close relationship with Jesus without having to suppress your own sexual identity or gender identity!

The Gospel of Jesus does not exclude anyone, neither should the church!
